THIS COULD BE YOU
Kate McHugh

Kate is a sustainability and supply chain executive and founder of KitchenHand.io. She wrote an Inside Small Business piece titled ‘Are SMEs too small to worry about climate?’ where she stressed that small businesses now need to understand where climate intersects with commercial performance. Rather than desperately trying to provide evidence that your business scrapes below the thresholds for mandatory climate-related financial reporting, you’d be better to ask what do you need to understand about your business to continue to be competitive in the future?
Kim Allen
CRA Construction
Kim was interviewed on Sky News about the recent proposal to cut Australia’s construction code from 2,000 pages down to 80.
She spoke about why that should worry everyone, not just people in the trade.
That code wasn’t written for fun. Every page exists because something went wrong once and got fixed with a rule. Structural steel requirements. Seismic design. Standards that stop homes growing mould five years after handover.
Cut it down to the bare minimum and you’re not simplifying anything. You’re handing a loophole to whoever wants to take the shortcut, because now the bare minimum is all that’s required. She argues that we’re not short on regulation. We’re short on tradies who actually understand why it exists.
Rasti Vaibhav
Get RARE Properties
Buyer’s agent Rasti appeared in an ABC Media Watch segment discussing last month’s Sunday Daily Telegraph ‘exclusive’ about the cost of living situation. The exclusive claimed his family was struggling with power bills and struggling to buy a home, but Media Watch highlighted that they actually own a large portfolio of investment properties and have chosen to rent their family home for lifestyle and investment reasons, meaning they are in no way financially struggling.
He was also featured in the AFR in an article titled ‘SMSF ‘ban’ is shaking up housing – and commercial property, too’ by Deputy property editor Michael Blueby.
Renae Kunda
Cape York Motorcycle Adventures
Small-business owners are not resistant to progress, but they do resist progress that does not account for operational reality. Renae wrote an extensive piece for Inside Small Business last month about the deeper fatigue comes from the steady stream of external ‘improvements’ that promise to make life easier, yet somehow do the opposite.
She pleads that if new systems are being designed to improve efficiency, invite the operators who use them at scale into the room before the final decision is made. Test the platform under real pressure. Attempt bulk bookings. Make deliberate mistakes and try to fix them. Adjust numbers mid-season. Experience the friction firsthand.
Riaza Manricks
Reimagining Business
Raiza felt incredibly honoured to be featured in last month’s Marie Claire as the leadership expert in the ‘Besties Who Mean Business’ article by Bek Day.
The article explores the power of female friendships in business, and Riaza shared her perspective on why mixing business and friendships may not be the terrible idea we’ve been told for years.
Sarah James
The Sensory Specialist
It’s often said that people come into our lives for ‘a season, a reason or a lifetime’ and can change you in ways you hadn’t thought of. Such was the case for Meet the Press MasterClass grad Sarah from The Sensory Specialist as she shares an inspiring story in the latest MindFood magazine. It’s a reminder that sometimes these people can shape what we go on to create – often without ever realising the impact they’ve had.
Sarah Stephens
Florentis Health
Sarah joined Dr Ross Walker on Healthy Living, heard across 2GB, 3AW, 4BC and 6PR, to talk about one of Sarah’s areas of expertise and passion, brain health.
They discussed practical, evidence-informed ways to support healthy cognitive ageing and reduce the risk of cognitive decline.
Therese Ravell
Impact HR
Therese recently spoke with The Sydney Morning Herald about the normalisation of burnout in small to medium businesses.
One of the biggest hurdles she identified? Business owners feeling ‘incredibly uncomfortable’ with psychosocial safety because of the jargon and complexity.
Therese’s advice is simple: ‘If something doesn’t sit normally for an employee, ask them… be prepared to listen and work through things together.’
Tim Dettmann

Physiotherapist Tim is a regular on Today show and last month spoke about ice baths – a therapy that often springs to mind when the topic of ‘wellness’ arises – alongside trends like infrared sauna and lymphatic drainage.
‘We might have got a little carried away about how beneficial ice baths were,’ explained Tim. ‘They make you feel good, and give you a little bit of adrenaline and some endorphins. But one of the mistakes we definitely made is recommending people hop into ice baths after they’ve done a big ride or run or a gym workout. These days we don’t [suggest it], because … it slows down your protein synthesis.’
Ewen Hollingsworth
Spark Finance
Spark Finance has unveiled a no-cosigner tuition loan, addressing one of the biggest barriers facing international students right now. Ewen’s leadership in the space was featured in an article in The Koala International Education News, noting his push for fairer access as more than half of Spark’s enquiries come from students without an eligible guarantor. Ewen’s message is clear: talent shouldn’t be blocked by financing rules, and responsible innovation is essential to keep global education within reach.
Jess Chalk
For Keeps
Business Builders profiled recent MasterClass grad Jess, whose work preserving bouquets, heirlooms and memorabilia is deeply shaped by her mum’s younger-onset dementia.
Jess stepped into the role at 24, documenting decades of unwritten processes and modernising the business while protecting its legacy. She says the real purpose of For Keeps isn’t flowers – it’s safeguarding stories. One client told her the keepsake Jess created was the first thing that made her smile after losing her fiancé. Moments like that, Jess says, matter more than any award.
Jo Lukins

MasterClass grad Dr Jo Lukins specialises in both elite performance in sport and the boardroom and spoke on multiple Mindwise interviews again on ABC Radio last month. Topics included ‘From All-or-Nothing to All-or-Something Fitness’, ‘What’s Holding You Back from Change? Even When It’s Good for You’, ‘Are We Craving Unity?’, ‘Belonging Across Generations’ and ‘Changing the Mind’.
